I agree, I'd say most cases it's the back swing but you're right definitely not always. I also wasn't trying to second guess this teacher he makes some very good points. I was just trying to add some other possible solutions and something that helped me.? Thanks for your response golfnutt1969.

On camera, my back swing is on or above the? plane. I would agree that many people with an over the top golf swing also have a very poor back swing, but that is not the only reason. McDanielGolf is spot on in pointing out the problem I'm having.

Try and get the face to match the direction of the clubhead. It sounds like the face is open to the path (if you are slicing it). I would look at your grip and club face? position at address.

Once again Steven a great video. I have worked hard on all of your? tips/drills that you gave me last year and I am seeing big improvements. It seems like I was just writing you about the weather being good for golf again and now it's probably snowing again there. Time flies. I will send you some new videos when I get some time. Thanks again for all your excellent instruction Steven and happy holidays!

Almost every chronic over the top swing is caused by the back swing and not the down swing. Usually an over the top swing is low and inside like a baseball swing which leaves players badly out of position at the top of their backswing? forcing them to come over the top in an attempt to get back on the proper plane. The best advice I can give is swing like you're chopping down on a piece of wood. Exaggerate this motion by extending your left hand as high as you can at the top of your backswing.

This will cause you to swing down on the ball creating a divot instead of sweeping at it. It's very hard to come over the top when your backswing is already at the top. Another tip to include is pretend there's an imaginary wall that is leaning against the right side of your ball and if you are coming over? the top you will hit the wall before the ball. Or you can even place a club or any object just to the right of the ball and try to avoid hitting it.

Well, keep at it! There is no failure, only feedback. If you shank it,? then you should know why. Good luck! / Steven

Absolutely great instruction video. I've tried the drill and this has completely stopped my over the top? swing. Great video and easy to follow, many thanks

Great lesson! I am doing the same thing however my local pro is working on my posture first then I hope to shallow out the swing. It's pretty demoralising this, as i could hit shanks? and lose my swing completely with this problem.

Really good simple lesson. As simple as a swing should be.?

I'll post some videos with some stretching? AND strengthening exercises for core separation and rotation. Glad to hear you're off to the gym ;)

Great! I would love some tips on upper / lower body separation. I am off to the? gym now...Cheers!

I love you you show over and over again the proper motion. I'm a visual learner, so your repeating the move really helps. As a golf trainer, I have found that many of my golfers? have a severe restriction in core flexibility, so they cannot get any separation between their upper and lower body. I will shoot a video tip on how to physically improve this. Be on the lookout at my channel.

There are different factors that create a draw, but the basic form of the swing plane should be? shallower.
By: McDanielGolf. on 03 Nov 10, 21:27:17
I like to feel that the body moves forward to establish stability with the ground. This, in effect, creates motion downward with the arms. After the body is stable the arms swing through the impact zone with speed. This is a blend of body / arm motion. My feeling is my hands swing straight downward and then around my body (this should shallow out the clubhead into impact).?

Good tip.. During the downswing, is there a pull? of the arms? If so are you pulling straight down? Also which arm are you pulling with. Thanks

A hook comes from a closed club face. The difference between the direction the head swings and the closed face will determine the amount of curve. ?
By: pmmgm. on 12 Oct 10, 17:57:40
it? helped a lot, thanks, but I'm hooking the ball at times, my grip is ok (neutral) - am i under the plane during the downswing?
